    FAQs

    What is Ostrich?

Ostrich is a New York City based fintech company that has built an accountability app for your finances.

+  Over $200k in funding to date from investors that include AARP and employees from Amazon, Barclays, Gartner, Electric, Stax, and RBS.

+  Mobile app in an active beta with pilot partners that include colleges and school districts.

+  Individual users save over $200 in the first 30 days on average.

+  80% of Ostrich’s individual users are on track to achieve their financial goals.

    Why is Ostrich important?

82% of people want to improve their finances yet 158 million Americans or 61% of US adults live paycheck to paycheck. The problem isn’t that most people don’t want to be better off financially it’s just hard to set and stick to goals.

There are a multitude of reasons for this level of failure. However, a lack of tying financial goals to larger life ambitions, guidance on how to achieve goals faster, and accountability to stick to those goals are three of the key areas we’ve identified through our research and expertise.

Ostrich’s mission is to improve global financial wellbeing and our vision is to be the most trusted financial service company on the planet.

    Why the name Ostrich?

Ostrich represents security as we enable people to build a large nest egg.

Ostrich represents freedom as we help people pull their heads out of the sand when it comes to finances and the vision they have for their lives.

What is a Startup Rookie Card?

The Startup Rookie Card is a digital collectible. You can think of a Startup Rookie Card as a better version of a Kickstarter crowdfund. In a Kickstarter, you as a supporter receive an initial reward for your support, but then that’s the end of your relationship with the company beyond future marketing emails.

As a Startup Rookie Card NFT holder, you will be identifiable to the issuing company at any point. This creates a way for the company to continue to add value to you as the holder. Additionally, the NFT is an asset that owners can choose to keep, trade, or sell at any point in time*.

Check out the full Startup Rookie Card concept paper for more detail.

*The Startup Rookie Card NFT is a digital collectible and does not represent ownership of Ostrich in any way, shape or form, and should not be considered a security.

What do you get when you buy a Startup Rookie Card?

Ostrich’s Startup Rookie Card will come with a number of tangible benefits including:

+  🎴 Ostrich NFT Rookie Card
+  🃏 Physical Ostrich Rookie Card*
    +  🔒 Ledger Hardware Wallet* (Over a $150 value)
+  👑 Early access to new features on the Ostrich App
+  🗣 Access to monthly office hours with the Ostrich founders (initial 12 months)
+  🏆 Bragging rights with irrefutable proof you were an OG supporter of Ostrich
    +  🤯 Future surprises

*Physical rookie cards and Ledger hardware wallets will require you to provide a name and physical address for us to ship to if you wish to redeem these benefits. Ledger wallets will only be shipped once the project has sold out.

Are there different versions of the artwork?

There are 4 styles of the Ostrich Rookie Card which feature a different color Ostrich egg and a different background. In total there are 250 of each style and the distribution of the cards will be randomized.

At this time there is no benefit to having one version of the Ostrich Rookie Card over another nor is there currently a benefit to collecting all 4 styles.

How much is the Ostrich Startup Rookie Card?

The Ostrich Startup Rookie Card will cost $500 or 500 USDC and can be paid for using a debit card, credit card, or Ethereum/USDC.

Given the recent volatility in ETH, we have elected to price in dollars/USDC.

Our payment partner is Paper.xyz which is built on Stripe. For those without an NFT or cryptocurrency wallet, Paper.xyz will also create an account to store your NFT. At any time you can transfer the NFT to another wallet provider like Metamask, Ledger, or Coinbase Wallet.

If you aren’t familiar with the process of purchasing and owning/storing an NFT, the Ostrich team is happy to help you set up a wallet and train you on security best practices.

You can also buy an Ostrich Rookie Card on the secondary market from OpenSea.

    What’s an NFT?

Non-fungible tokens, better known as NFTs, can be so many things…

What a horrible answer to that question, right?

At it’s core, an NFT acts as incontrovertible proof that you are the owner of something. You might well have heard about this in the context of artwork, such as Bored Apes or Doodles, but an NFT could equally represent ownership of something physical too.

In the context of the Ostrich Rookie Card, your NFT demonstrates that you are the owner of the digital rookie card, which bestows upon you certain rights (as detailed above).

If you are interested and want to dig deeper into what NFTs are, and what the myriad use cases can and will be, check out this article on ethereum.org, and take a look at some of Packy McCormack’s writing in his Not Boring archive.

What’s the goal of the Ostrich Rookie Card project?

Ostrich’s aim is to find and reward our first 1,000 true fans through the Startup Rookie Card, whilst blazing a trail for other early stage companies to issue their own SRCs, gathering support from their communities.

Our aim is to provide owners of the Ostrich Rookie Card with tremendous value over the long-term in the form of education, tangible benefits, and community. Ostrich will use proceeds from the sale to of the digital collectibles to fund operations.

Why create an NFT version of the Start Up Rookie Card?

Ostrich has an incentive to keep adding value as we have included a 10% royalty on secondary sales.

This means that the as the Startup Rookie Card becomes more valuable, and owners buy and sell their SRCs, Ostrich will generate revenue from secondary sales that will go to funding business operations.

Ostrich intends to add value back to Startup Rookie Card holders, which may manifest in the form of early access to new features, physical goods, status in the Ostrich App, exclusive access to the founding team, and more.
